From reno...  moreThe Ensemble Thios Omilos was founded in 2002 by members of the Leipzig Thomanerchor and quickly became recognized for their stylistic dedication to the inTerpretation of sacred music as well as secular liTerature from the renaissance to modern. From renowned festivals, such as the Leipzig Bachfest, the MDR Summer Music, the music festival in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, the “Kultursommer” in Nordhessen, and the “Musiksommer” in both Schönberg and Quedlinburg, to performances abroad, the singers have been warmly welcomed. The vocal quinTet went on tour in 2007 to the People’s Republic of China and in 2010 to Taiwan. In 2013 the group was inviTed to Rome to perform a concert in honor of the council chairman of the Evangelical Reformed Church visiting the Holy See. In the same year Thios Omilos won first place in the Johannes-Brahms-Competition in Wernigerode, the Anton-Bruckner-Competition in Linz, and the Leipzig Conservatory of Music and TheaTer Ensemble Competition. WaTer Ruminations is a setting of six poems by the thirTeenth-century poet Rumi, in English translations from the Persian by Coleman Barks, for double choir and organ. The poetry sings of liTeral and spiritual connections between waTer and sky, a drop of waTer and human life, flowing waTer and love, drinking waTer and its container, the giddiness of spring and rolling seas, and the ocean's gifts and singing. Its images, from 800 years ago, speak to us with both vivid immediacy and transcendence.
