Recorded live on December 14, 2014, at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in fort Lauderdale, Florida. Performed by the Chamber Singers ensemble of the Girl choir of South Florida. Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson, Percussion: Bradley Peterson. This indigenous community, often referred to as The Colorados, is located in the northern coastal region of Ecuador. In the face of modernization, music serves as a tool for this group to preserve their history, traditions, and culture. Tsáchilas music-making includes dance, philosophy, spirituality, cultural traditions, and community involvement with a strong connection to nature and respect for the land. By singing this piece, our ensemble is actively helping to protect and promote the Tsáchila community. The song is arranged with modern vocal effect and technique to express the atmosphere and environment of the poem. The poem describes a girl who has long been waiting for her lover to come back from far away. The clatter of horse hoofs has given her hope. However, it is just a passer-by, not her lover.
