Listen to Eri Yamamoto and Choral Chameleon's Artistic Director Vince Peterson discussing the project, with footage from the November 2018 premiere at the Paul Taylor Dance Company Studios. The event culminated in a dance party encore with audience and choir dancing together! After a simple lesson in the Obon dance from Shiga prefecture in Japan, the audience danced to a reprise of the final movement by the choir and Trio. The Virginia Wesleyan Singers are an open-enrollment Ensemble of 30-50 singers from all majors at Virginia Wesleyan College. No audition is required, and singers perform a variety of music in all styles while developing Vocal technique and musicianship skills.

Durch die Jahre im Knabenchor musikalisch geprägt, führte der Weg alle vier Ensemblemitglieder zum Lübecker Kammerchor „I Vocalisti" unter der Leitung von Hans-Joachim Lustig, mit dem sie zahlreiche Preise gewannen, u. a. beim Deutschen Chorwettbewerb und bei internationalen Kammerchorwettbewerben wie Marktoberdorf, Tolosa (Spanien) und Cork, Irland. Die jahrelange gemeinsame Singerfahrung in unzähligen Konzerten, auf nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerben und Festivals legte schließlich den Grundstein für das vierköpfige VokalEnsemble. Spera means hope in Latin, and it is a members’ shared vision on music. All members studied a sacred choral music under Koji Oguchi, choir director, when they were high school students. They were deeply touched by Oguchi’s music and established the Ensemble Choir SPERA. Making its debut in concert in March 2014 at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall, SPERA’s music was highly prized and well-reviewed in newspapers. It serves in Masses and services and performs in concerts as an ecumenical choir, composed of students from Kitasato University, International Christian University, Hitotsubashi University and Rikkyo University.
