The lyrics were written by Elgar's wife, Alice, who was a published author of poetry and fiction. The poem is a romantic Victorian plea for keeping the soul pure: O, snow, which sinks so light, Brown earth is hid from sight O soul, be thou as white as snow O snow which falls so slow, Dear earth quite warm below; O heart, so keep thy glow Beneath the snow. A message from the Director: "Christmas 2020 is the first year in our 43-year history we have no live concerts, so we present this Virtual Concert of 6 carols. I am proud of my musical colleagues for putting these videos together. I thank them for their loyalty to our fans and their fellow choir members, and for their diligence in preparing individual performances to such a demanding degree of musicianship. We all share an understanding of how important it is right now to share the joy of song with the world.
