We are open to all singers with no auditions and previous experience of contemporary Music is not needed. We work mainly, though not exclusively, from Music, some of which is unconventionally notated. Most of our work is a capella and the focus is on ensemble singing. One objective is to expand the contemporary amateur Vocal repertoire, which is less developed than the instrumental repertoire. We work with composers and students, commissioning works and showcasing material for use by others.  less

Voice Weavers has open rehearsals on Thursday nights from 6:30pm QLD time at Tweed Heads Civic and Cultural Centre, cnr Wharf and Brett Sts Tweed Heads. This auditioned SATB Choir has a long history of performing high quality choral Music at various events including School concerts, community events, and National conferences and festivals. Last year after winning the St John’s group choral Rosebowl, this Choir won both the Provincial Music Festival and the National Music Festival of Canada. The Choir has been featured on local television and radio programs and even performed live in concert International Children performing icons- The Wiggles. The Wiggles Performance garnered national attention with news articles in all major outlets across the country. Founded in 1977, the Choir has gained a well-deserved reputation for performing neglected and unfamiliar Music as well as better known and popular pieces, both sacred and secular. New members are welcome and encouraged to attend three rehearsals before an informal voice appraisal.

However, Music can be made available for those who want it. W...  moreBishop Road Community Choir is open to all in the local community. We are a mixed, non-audition Choir. All songs are taught by ear and we don’t expect anyone to learn the words off by heart. However, Music can be made available for those who want it. We sing a range of different songs, including pop, gospel, world Music and classical. We mainly sing songs with piano accompaniment, provided by our famous pianist, Geoff. We hold our own annual concert, and we are often invited to sing at other local events such as the local MayFest. Our members come along for “enjoyment, friendship and satisfaction as well as singing with a group of like-minded people”. Singing is reputed to release endorphins in the brain, and we’ve certainly noticed amongst us a sense of well-being following rehearsals and in particular, concerts. We are a very sociable bunch and often meet for a drink at the Chimp House on Gloucester Road following our rehearsal on Thursday evenings. It is based on a Czech Furiant (a fast dance with metre shifting between duple and triple time) called "Sedlák, sedlák", which was also sung as a light-hearted and frolicsome song gently poking fun at a corpulent farmer. The words of the carol are by Malcolm Sargent himself. Girls and boys, leave your toys. make no noise, Kneel at His crib and worship Him. At Thy shrine, Child divine, we are Thine, Our Saviour's here. "Hallelujah!" the church bells ring, "Hallelujah!" the angels sing, "Hallelujah!" from ev'rything. All must draw near. (etc)  less
