Many of our singers are school music teachers and voice teachers. We perform a wide variety of music from classical and broadway to pop and vocal jazz. The choir was founded in 2011 by friends who have spent their lives teaching others to perform, but whom rarely get the chance to sing anymore. We are directed by Jason Krigas and accompanied by Kathryn Polyack.

During this time the choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 Golden diplomas on provincial level for t...  moreThe choir was founded in 1986 by Mr. Albert Morland who has since held the reigns in his very capable conducting hands. During this time the choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 Golden diplomas on provincial level for the “ATKV Applous” competition in the category for advanced, mixed high school choirs; and 7 Golden diplomas on national level for the same competition. They were the only choir in the history of the Director’s trophy who won the award 8 times and they were also the first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), boys’- (twice) and girls’ choir (once). They have also received double gold at the Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at the Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in their category in more than one local competition. They have annual workshops and master classes with well-known and respected conductors (both locally and internationally) and have hosted many international choirs and groups. An Open World, When I Land and And the Wind are three settings of poems from FletcherLaVallee Bartholomew's collection entitled "And the Wind: Gnostic Poems 1945 - 1979." Minneapolis native Fletcher Bartholomew spent most of his life in aviation, beginning with a childhood flight in a Curtis Robin in 1929. His work in aviation started with a job as an inspector in an aircraft factory. He went on to become a test pilot in World War II, serving at the South India Air Depot at Bangalore, India. He often spoke later of his experience on the ship to India and the people he met travelling around the subcontinent. He subsequently worked in aviation in Munich, Germany, and in Lima, Peru, before he concluded his career working in airport planning and management.  less

This project we did gave some of our members the studio experience while also challenging them in an area of music they were not used to! In this case, the areas we wanted to expose our members to were the ins and outs of recording in the studio, learning a technical piece using the written score and learning how to be aware of our presence while on video. We hope to provide more experiences like this to our members on NGGC. Enjoy!  less
