Under the leadership of Musical Director and soprano, Michelle Nova, the singers perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and modern choral music. In recent years, the Choir has championed contemporary composers writing specifically for the female voice, placing these pieces alongside classics by the likes of Fauré, Vivaldi, Mozart and Holst. The Choir's unique sound is characterised by its vibrancy and fullness, a result of the 'Bel Canto' singing technique in which all the singers are trained. The choral programme starts with a general education for ages 5-7, before they are ready for Junior Choir (7-10), Intermediate Choir (10-13), Stage Choir or Youth Choir (13-18). Youth Choir contains over 80 singers, and the total number of singers meeting each week at the academy is over 180. The junior Choirs are directed by Mrs Kate Venvell, Stage Choir is directed by Richard Halton and Julie Gossage, and Youth Choir is directed by Tim Venvell.  less
