Founded in 2008 under The direction of MatThew Larkin, The choir is formed of professional choral scholars from The Toronto area.
The Larkin Singers has had successful tours to Bristol, UK as resident choir at Bristol CaThedral and to New York City. They have also presented concerts in Ottawa, London and Kingston. In 2008, The Larkin Singers released its first recording, "A New Work is Come on Hand" featuring music of The Christmas season by Bach, R.V. Williams, Howells, Ord and oThers.
Now in its fourth season, The Larkin Singers presents a 3 concert subscription series; outreach and collaborative performances throughout Ontario. Two years after its founding, it was awarded 1st Prize at The 29th National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) held at The Cultural Center of The Philippines. The group performed in various events such as Miss Earth Pageant in 2003 and 2004. The group was also one of The featured artists in The Samu’t-Saring Tinig V at The Cultural Center of The Philippines; in a concert at The Clamshell in Intramuros in February 2003; and in The International Youth Music Festival sponsored by NAMCYA held at The CCP in December 2003. In 2004, The choir released its debut CD featuring Ilocano favourites and winning competition pieces. In 2005, The choir was handed over to its new conductor, Sherberk Cabrales. The choir sings evensong every Sunday during term and performs in concerts organised by Somerville Music Society. Somerville Choir is currently being conducted by David Crown. He is assisted by The two organ scholars, Douglas KNight and Robert Pecksmith (http://www.robert-smith.org.uk ), and choir manager Stefan Schwarz.
Since David Crown took over as Director of Chapel Music in 2007, The choir has been involved in two opera productions (Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas ' and Gluck's 'Orfeo ed Euridice') as well as concerts in Oxford, Brighton, Wells, Swindon, Upton upon Severn and Steeple Aston. In recent years The choir has also sung evensong at Southwark, Worcester, Winchester, Wells and Berlin CaThedrals.
