Our repertoire is all original, written by choir members and has emerged as a new tribal choral tradition that honors death as a natural, expected, sometimes very inspiring event in a life. While we don't require auditions, our welcome process is rigorous. This kind of singing is spiritual work and is deeply rewarding for those who are called to it.

The choir delights in introducing new Songs that are connected by their unique choral sound, rather than from a particular genre and it is this wide appeal and their sense of fun that has meant the group is in constant demand and continually attracts new members.
Even in its early days the choir never quite conformed to the accepted norms of what should be included in their repertoire. However, this in no way hindered its appeal and it went on to win a number and prestigious competitions including one of the largest Eisteddfods for male choirs in Wales, an award for services to the arts from Chelmsford City Council and passed the advanced choral singing examination of The Associated Board of the Royal College of Music

"Angel, I love you. What should I do? I don't have any money. I would marry you if I did."
This outdoor performance was the culmination of a six-week project which creates a choir from scratch for one night only. Each winter and summer, Chris Rowbury gathers a random bunch of singers from in and around Ipswich. There are no auditions and all Songs are taught and learnt by ear. Usually eight Songs are learnt in six two-hour sessions and in the summer are performed outdoors near Ipswich. http://chrisrowbury.com less

The style of singing is more 'pop' than classical and the choice of music reflects this, with the repertoire including show-tunes, popular Songs from the 1930s to today, as well as classic barbershop arrangements. There are strong links to musical theatre in that most Songs are choreographed, and performing skills are a key element in making a song work.
We rehearse every Tuesday, 6:30pm-9:00pm, in central London between Kings Cross and St Paul's. We are always on the look out for enthusiastic and talented women so if you're interested in joining, do drop a line to hello@londoncitysingers.co.uk for details. less
