The World Choir and Orchestra of Santa Cruz perform "YaLaLay", composed and directed by Stephen Bigger. YaLaLay is a celebration, the words imply "woohoo!". This SAATTBB arrangement may be performed by 3 men and 3 women's voices in a variety of settings- from voices only (with small adaptation for the musical breaks- instrumental parts may be represented by vocal treatment) to vocals with drums, vocals with piano, and on up to full orchestration. Perfect as a concert opener or finale, the energy generated from this piece makes it a versatile inclusion in standard repertoire for choirs who want to be challenged musically but have a lot of fun in the process. it can be a quick learn to master the basics, but developing the finer points, swoops, stomps, and vocal noises will give the most insatiable appetite something on which to delight their (and their audiences') aural appetite. Go, sleep little Jesus! The wind's riding by to set all the candles Alight in the sky. A candle for Kingship, Sweet laughter it brings And mirth's golden music, The riches of Kings. Go sleep little Jesus! The wind's riding by to set all the candles Alight in the sky But oh! in the skytop Up there I can see A cross, it's shining, it's shining on thee, Go sleep, little Jesus! The wind's riding by to set all the candles Alight in the sky. "Star Candles" is available on the compact disc Joyous Day! distributed through Clarion Records. This short, lively SATB piece is loads of fun and highlights the quintessential elements of the Acadian folksong tradition: podorythmie (seated foot-tapping), diddlage (mouth music), and the spoons. But, it also stretches the tradition to include more modern elements. Don’t be fooled by thinking this is just a simple folksong. it is a challenging and complex piece that reflects the innate musicality of this long-standing Canadian oral tradition. Though this folksong can be found in other parts of French Canada, I chose to feature the Acadian dialect in this rendition because it is emblematic of the role that language sometime plays in creating social inequity. Story synopsis: For those unfamiliar with the language, this video helps tell the song’s funny story of a young woman, Marie Madeleine, who has a rather difficult relationship w...    is).getParent().getPrevious().style.display='';$(this).getParent().style.display='none';">less
