Mother of God, here I stand now praying before this ikon of your radiant brightness, not praying to be saved from a battlefield; not giving thanks nor seeking forgiveness for the sings of my soul, nor for all the souls. Numb, joyless and desolate on earth; but for her alone, whom I wholly give you. Arent().getPrevious().style.display='';$(this).getPArent().style.display='none';">less

The text is adapted from the E.E. Cummings poem of the same name.
Composer Gwyneth Walker writes: "This is a poem of grandeur and of praise. Therefore it might be expected that this musical setting would aim at vastness, grandeur and awakening." Walker accomplishes this through a variety of means. First, the piano introduction includes slowly unfolding piano arpeggios which focus on open intervals of octaves, fifths and fourths, exploiting the full range of the piano keyboard. The composer also takes the singers on a harmonic journey which begins in a low register in C minor, and then travels through a number of other key Areas until it reaches the distant key of G-flat. At this point, the voices Are drawn closely together into a tone cluster containing the pitches G-flat, A-flat and B-flat, only to open apart into the glorious C major chords which conclude the ... English Translation:
Oh! What an unbearable pain!
Oh, gracious God!
What an unbearable sorrow!
The third bell of the Cathedral just rang;
The sun set long ago behind Mount Lopital...
Mother Nature derailed, straining everyone to misery.
Large structures and small rafts have turned to dust and ashes.
Jesus, Marie, and Joseph... Grace and Mercy...
Mother Nature derailed, straining everyone to misery.
We see, but We don't understand,
It happened so suddenly.
The earth trembled!
The earth shook harder than a desert's leaf.
Help! Help! Rescue me, I beg you!
I'm at a loss for words...
Dies irae, dies illa; (Day of wrath, day of anger)
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine.
(Grant them eternal rest, Lord.)
Haiti! Haiti! What an unbearable pain,
Tighten your belt.
Haiti! Haiti! You Are a valiant woman,
Hang in there, don't give up...
Rubberneckers from everywhere ask: "How's it going?"... Arent().getPrevious().style.display='';$(this).getPArent().style.display='none';">less

God be in my head (Basden)
Here's a new setting of the Well-known medieval text. It's in six parts with no divisi and no staggered breathing, so it will work nicely with a sextet too.
The sheet music is free – please contact me for the PDF.
