The Choir has performed throughout Scotland and beyond, with music covering all periods and most styles.
Critically acclaimed, and attracting capacity audiences, at The Edinburgh Fringe and elsewhere, The Choir is regularly invited to perform at prominent events and has been broadcast on BBC Radio (3, 4 and Scotland) and Classic FM. Cadenza’s most recent CD - Bright Star: Cadenza at Christmas – was reviewed in Classical Music Magazine and included in Breakfast on 3’s Advent Calendar in December 2013.
Jenny Sumerling became Musical Director in 2000 and under her direction Cadenza has gone from strength to strength. Ben Parry, Director of The National Youth Choirs of Great Britain has been Cadenza’s Patron since 2003.

This is The Choir’s 99th album to be released. Founded in The 1670s, The Choir is known for its distinctive rich, warm sound, its expressive interpretations and its breadth of repertoire. Alongside These musical characteristics, The Choir is particularly proud of its happy, relaxed and mutually supportive atmosphere. The Choir is directed by Andrew Nethsingha following a long line of eminent Directors of Music, recently Dr George Guest, Dr Christopher Robinson and Dr David Hill.
The Choir is made up of around 20 Choristers and Probationers from St John’s College School and 15 Choral Scholars who are members of St John’s College, its primary purpose being to enhance The liturgy and worship at daily services in The College Chapel. During The tenure of Principal Major Harry L. Reed The Choir won The prestigious R. Meaden Shield(Senior) for Singing for 10 successive years from 1920 to 1931, once with a perfect score of 200/200.
The College AnThem ‘School of our FaThers’, composed by Principal Reed made its debut at this competition on The 13th day of July, 1928 and to this day takes responsibility of preserving The College AnThem. The Choir was trained by Mrs. Reed with The support of Robert C. Edwards, Esq.
The Choir today continues to sing at many major events in and out of College, The most significant out of which being The Annual Carol Service. It is currently trained by The eminent Ms. Sureka Amerasinghe. less
