It has appeared in major venues in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Wales, and Ireland. The ensemble regularly collaborates with the Des Moines Symphony and sang the Beethoven Ninth Symphony with that orchestra in September 2011. The Drake Choir has performed in Carnegie Hall and has been featured on the conference program of the American Choral Directors Association North Central Division.
The ensemble consists of 64-70 singers who are first-year students through seniors and who represent every College of the University. Auditions for returning students take place in April and for new students during the weekend preceding the start of the fall semester. The ensemble rehearses Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 3:30-5:00 p.m. and is conducted by Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier, Director of Choral Studies and Professor of Condcuting. less

Usually consisting of 20 to 24 members, the Chorale focuses primarily on chamber choir repertoire and tackles a wide variety of styles, languages, and techniques. Chorale membership is reserved for students who demonstrate some level of music-reading ability, experience singing in advanced Choral ensembles, and/or the potential to thrive in a small, advanced chamber choir environment. During the audition process, careful attention is given to maintaining artistic balance among the sections of the chorus. In addition to performances throughout the academic year, students in Chorale are expected to remain on campus for an additional week after the conclusion of each spring semester to perform in Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies and participate in end-of-year touring activities. less
