The Choir performs concerts each semester and also sings at Remembrance Day ceremonies, convocation ceremonies, and other events on campus and in the community. We are a volunteer, non-auditioned group open to all, but Choir members are expected to regularly attend rehearsals and the semester retreat, and to practice their parts on their own time. We usually put up practice files under “Resources” (members-only access) so that you can download your part and listen to it on whatever portable music-playing device you own. No musical experience is needed, but the ability to read music is an asset (if you can't read music, we'll help you learn).  less

The Choir was founded in 1838 by Fredrik Pacius and...  moreThe Academic Male Voice Choir of Helsinki – Akademiska Sångföreningen or Akademen in Swedish – is a Fennoswedish (i.e. Swedish-speaking) male voice Student Choir based in the Finnish capital of Helsinki. The Choir was founded in 1838 by Fredrik Pacius and is the oldest extant Choir in Finland. At present, Akademen has around 60 active singers, most of whom are University Students. However, quite a few choose to stay in the active Choir long after graduation, which makes for a healthy mix of youth and experience. We give concerts regularly in Finland, and travel abroad as frequently as possible. In addition to all the Scandinavian and most European countries, Akademen has been on tour in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Singapore. We believe that ambitious musical development can go hand-in-hand with tradition, and work enthusiastically to keep alive the dialogue between past and present.  less
