The University Chorale is The touring Ensemble for The choral department. The Ensemble performs a wide spectrum of The finest choral literature. The group performs extensively throughout The Southwest and will be singing at several venues in Washington D.C. during December of 2013. The group primarily consists of Vocal music majors, however, There are singers representing several oTher academic disciplines. The University Chorale has been under The direction of J. Steven Walker since 1984. Dr. Walker is The Director of Choral Activities and a Linscheid Distinguished Teaching Professor at East Central University. He has served on The music faculty at ECU since 1983.  less

One could trace back choral singing at St. Benedict’s to The early years of The 20th.Century when La Sallian Christian broTher expatriates from Europe inculcated in The local staff and student bodies , an appreciation of choral singing. They brought to our school The rich traditions of classical music that prevailed in Europe, at The time. By and by , They were ably assisted by highly interested and committed lay trainers cum teachers who went on to train prize winning choirs that stood out among schools and also were in great demand for national events. The history of The Benedictine choirs would not be complete without reference to The great English musician Rev.Bro. Hugh Farrington , ably assisted by Bonnie Fonseka. In The World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became The 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got The 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning ...  moreIn The World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became The 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got The 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral Music' The champions competed in, The choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals. Concerts by The group feature a cappella music of Scandinavia and The Baltics, as well as North-American composers. Music by composers such as Mäntyjärvi, Daniel-Lesur, Rautavaara, Martin and Pärt are ideal showcases for The choir’s lush and full sound. Members of The group are dedicated to excellence in rehearsing and performing. With a repertoire consisting of 8 to 16-part music, The twenty singers are mostly performing as soloists. Now in its fifth season, voces boreales has already performed in a number of prestigious concert series, such as The National Arts Centre eXpres- sion series, Musique Chez Nous at Bishop's University, Mondial Choral Laval and The Montreal International Bach-Academy.
