ABOUT THE PIECE:
Composer Vijay Singh writes: “The Lord's Prayer was inspired by Oliver Messian's Choral masterpiece "O Sacrum Convivium", with its use of dense harmony, existentialism, hypnotic transcendental tonal treatment, and grateful piety.” The composer decided to use the universal "Lord's Prayer" text and various musical ideas to communicate the power and hope of this prayer. The piece builds to climax at "For Thine is the Power and Glory forever!" and ends reflectively, savoring the "Amen".
THE COMPOSER:
Composer Vijay Singh is Professor in the music department at Central Washington University. This video is from a concert presented on the CWU Campus.in May, 2014 entitled: “The CWU Choirs and Friends sing songs of Singh” In that concert, 28 of Singh’s pieces were performed by 6 choirs, including two invited guest high school choirs.
