In these few years, the young all-girls choir has grown from strength to strength. Since June 2009, under the direction of their conductor, Mr Darius Lim, the choir has garnered numerous accolades and awards to their name. In 2010 the choir won the Gold Award at the 3rd Orientale Concentus International Choral Competition in Yilan, Taiwan. The choir was also Category Winner and was one of four choirs to be invited to compete in the grand finals. In 2011 the choir attained their first Silver award at the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of choirs. In the same year they came in 2nd at the National A Capella Championships. The choir has also collaborated with numerous national ensembles such as the Singapore Police force Band and choir and the Singapore Armed forces Band. Founded in 1934, the Victoria Choral Society has played a leading role in Victoria's cultural life, and has performed with every Victoria Symphony conductor since the Symphony’s inception. The choir was created after 200 singers, representing most of the church choirs of the day in Victoria, assembled in 1934 to sing Messiah. They agreed to continue singing together to promote choral music, and the Victoria Choral Society, at that time called the Victoria Choral Union, was formed. The instrumentalists who played with the choir later formed the Victoria Symphony. This performance was recorded on 5th December 2010 in the Harvey Nichols Espresso Bar in Leeds' magnificent Victoria Quarter in the first of St Peter's Singers' now-traditional annual series of Sunday evening carol concerts there. The choir is directed by Dr Simon Lindley, its Music Director since the Singers' formation in June 1977. Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece ha...  moreErik Satie's Sarabande No. 1 is one of my favourite piano pieces. for a long time, I felt there was an a cappella choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try. Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year. Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted. "As dawn breaks" was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful.
