Galaxias by Santiago Veros
The work narrates the idea that each person is a light that is part of the galaxy. The text describes an eternal being that receives the ancestral light to form part of the stellar mantle. It provides support and guidance to those who are looking for a path.
Lyrics
And the shadow of twilight fades
when the light of the ancestors
forms a mantle that protects and guides us.
A being illuminating the galaxies
The certainty on the shipwrecked path
The glint of existence, time and distance.
The ancient aurora of golden light
at the awakening of the dawn
the eyes radiant with certainties
condensed into rays of light.
The eternal radiance of the soul:
an instant of infinite distances
and the birth of a million dawns. less

Founded in 1934, the Victoria Choral Society has played a leading role in Victoria's cultural life, and has performed with every Victoria Symphony conductor since the Symphony’s inception.
The choir was created after 200 singers, representing most of the church choirs of the day in Victoria, assembled in 1934 to sing Messiah. They agreed to continue singing together to promote choral music, and the Victoria Choral Society, at that time called the Victoria Choral Union, was formed. The instrumentalists who played with the choir later formed the Victoria Symphony.
Recent performances with the Victoria Symphony include Wagner's Lohengrin (Third Act), Verdi's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Britten's War Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah. Each year, the Victoria Choral Society also produces its own concerts wi... less

Satie/Rain: "As dawn breaks,” #1 (Summer) Ottawa Four Seasons Suite (sung by Matthew Curtis)

Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year.
Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted.
"As dawn breaks" was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful.
NB: One day I woke up to the realization that I had independently written four choral works, each of which had evoked a different season, and so it seemed natural to group ... less
