Founded in 2009, Gotham Rock Choir was formed to provide an outlet for singers of all levels and backgrounds to explore contemporary music in a supportive, fun, uplifting environment, to provide an alternative to the city’s many traditional Choirs and to provide much-needed sense of “cool” to choral singing. Each week, a diverse group of New Yorkers from all walks of life–ranging from show business professionals to avid shower singers–gather at a professional rehearsal studio in Midtown Manhattan to belt out an eclectic mix of music in stunning 4-part harmony in preparation for a final concert held at an off-Broadway theatre. Many of our singers also choose to perform in our “Gotham Rock Choir: Unplugged” cabaret evenings, which give our members the opportunity to work on their own favorite tunes for performance at one of the city’s most famous cabaret venues. The Embro area is well known for having very talented people and we have added to the Embro talent with people from Woodstock, Ingersoll, Thamesford, Cambridge, London. Our goal is to make a great choral sound by learning and working together. We sing both the classics and the fun songs but our chief goals are that we have FUN while being of service to our communities!!!  less

The group meets every Wednesday evening in the gym at the Maudsley Hospital, 115 Denmark Hill SE5 8AZ between 6-7pm. Our patron is the wonderful Mary King.

When Odwa Mvunge return to his birth Community in 2012, after completing his music education studies at Nelson Mandela University, not much has changed. There still was no place in Zolani for the youth to express themselves in cultural activities that was not offered at school nor in the Community. After school the youth would loiter around without direction. This lead to the formation of the Zolani Youth choir. The basic idea and purpose of the Choir is to equip youth of our Community with basic music skills. The Choir consists of 25 scholars from different schools who are between the ages of 12 and 26 years. These scholars have no professional training or background in formal music, but have proven to have a passion and love for the art. It features people with disabilites and those without, from every section of the Community in Northern Ireland. The age range is extensive, from seventeen to over seventy but most importantly members are united by their love of singing. As well as Community events, The BIG Sing have hosted their own sold out shows in Essex and have many more coming up this year! As The BIG Sing grows we are continuing to reach out to more people of all ages and backgrounds.
