Founded in 2000 by Carol Woodward Ratzlaff in response to widespread cuts to public school arts programs, 2018-19 marks VIVA!’s 19th season as a downtown family of CHOIRs. VIVA!’s CHOIRs include: the Preparatory Chorus (ages 4-6); the Junior CHOIR (ages 6-10); the Main Chorus (ages 9-16); the SATB Chamber CHOIR (senior high school, university students and adults); and the non-auditioned VIVA! Community CHOIR (SATB) which incorporates Everyone Can Sing (ECS), an auditioned group for those aged 13 and up with disabilities. It typically assembles a CHOIR for a brief time before each performance, then disbands until just before the next concert when a new CHOIR is formed. The singers may or may not be the same each time. The CHOIR is known for its freshness of sound and heart felt connections with the listener.

It was established on July 2013 by music educator and conductor Mr. Aristeo B. Butial through the help of their principal Mr. Willy D. Federico and head teacher of MAPEH Department Mr. Emeterio S. Vargas Jr. It became one of the pillars of performing arts in the said school promoting culture and arts through choral music. In 2015, when the Special Program in the Arts established, the group was tied up in order to utilize and serve as training ground for students majoring music with an emphasis in voice performance. Since 2009 and thanks to his founder, Oscar Allen, the Choral Project has been working with young singers and developing young voices to excell in the interpretation and enjoyment of choral music and group singing. Due to an intensive and hard work, its members receive a full choral and scenic education, structured in the vocal individual technique and its different types of sound emission; on the development of corporal skills expression, and in the grupal practice of the choral exercise. This education is complemented by the permanent contact with other artistic disciplines as ballet and theatre are.
