Our mission is to spread a message of respect for the natural world through Music from across the globe, and we have performed at events such as Glastonbury Festival 2013 Opening Ceremony, and the United Nations World Environment Day concert in Staines and in Oxford Street, central London.
We welcome men and women of all abilities, and sessions are taught by ear so no experience is needed, just a passion for singing and a love of the earth! Our Musical Director is the renowned Susie Ro Prater who has supported Choirs and natural voice movement workshops for many years.
Our very enjoyable Choir practices take place once a month at the Hythe Centre in Egham, Staines, easily accessible by train from Central London and free parking onsite. It was the official Choir of the Masaryk University in Brno between 1999 and 2003. Since then it has continued as a civic association. In 2003 Štěpán Policer took up the artistic leadership of Gaudeamus, since 2007 Dáša Karasová has been leading the Choir.
The Choir has been undoubtedly contributing to the advancement of Brno Musical culture by giving concerts and appearing at benefit events annually. It has also been participating in choral festivals and competitions at home as well as abroad (Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia):

Since its formation in 1964, the Choir appears annually at the Welsh Proms and has performed with many of the world’s leading conductors, orchestras and soloists including: Sir Colin Davies; Sir andrew Davies; Tadaaki Otaka; Owain Arwel Hughes; The London Symphony Orchestra; BBC National Orchestra of Wales; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Raphael Wallfisch, Luciano Pavarotti; Dame Kiri Te Kanawa; Felicity Lott and Bryn Terfel. We have also sung for both the Queen and Nelson Mandela.
The Choir’s versatility has led to countless recordings and broadcasts on both Radio and Television, most recently on BBC Radio 4. When Odwa Mvunge return to his birth community in 2012, after completing his Music education studies at Nelson Mandela University, not much has changed.
There still was no place in Zolani for the youth to express themselves in cultural activities that was not offered at school nor in the community. After school the youth would loiter around without direction. This lead to the formation of the Zolani Youth Choir. The basic idea and purpose of the Choir is to equip youth of our community with basic Music skills.
The Choir consists of 25 scholars from different schools who are between the ages of 12 and 26 years. These scholars have no professional training or background in formal Music, but have proven to have a passion and love for the art. We Annually we perform two large concerts with professional soloists and orchestral Musicians in Carlow, ‘Glory of Christmas’ in the National Concert Hall and annual ‘Christmas Crackers’ family concert in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, Carlow.
We have a remarkable repertoire of many choral works such as Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. Mathews & St. John Passion, Verdi’s Requiem, Haydn’s The Creation & Seasons, Brahm’s Requiem & many more. Fick) is an auditioned SATB Choir of up to 65 voices with a passion for presenting excellent choral Music. TBC invites professional Musicians, soloists, actors and other arts organizations to join in classical choral repertoire in 3 - 4 concerts per season. TBC organizes and participates in “Messiah for the City” and in many local community events. TBC’s “Choral Scholars Program offers subsidy and training to singers aged 19 to 24. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7 to 9:30pm, September to May, usually at Kingston Road United Church. Auditions in September and January; the ability to read Music and choral experience are assets.
