Initially formed in 1987 simply as a means for those interested to gather together to sing...  moreThe Outer Banks Chorus is a group of 80+ singers dedicated to bringing excellent choral music of all kinds to Dare County, North Carolina and the surrounding areas. Initially formed in 1987 simply as a means for those interested to gather together to sing, more formal concerts were later organized and presented. In addition to two planned concerts a year (a Christmas concert in the Fall and a Spring concert), there are frequently requests from local organizations for appearances. for example, in the spring of 2011, the group performed at the Wright Brothers Monument for the Centennial of the Wright Brothers Glider Flight. The repertoire of the Outer Banks Chorus ranges from the classical to Broadway, and spirituals of all kinds and in different languages. Recently the chorus has sung a number of premiere performances of pieces by contemporary composers. All are invited to hear the chorus sing exceptionally lovely and wonderful choral music.  less

In the face of modernization, music serves as a tool for this group to preserve their history, traditions, and culture. Tsáchilas music-making includes dance, philosophy, spirituality, cultural traditions, and community involvement with a strong connection to nature and respect for the land. By singing this piece, our ensemble is actively helping to protect and promote the Tsáchila community.
