In new season the choir continues to make up steps towards new artistic activities. The main activities of the choir are finding the new ways to music, its expresion and presenting new ideas, cooperation with composers and many professional musicians. Now, the choir Mūza is making a new image and wants to show multiplicity of the choir music. In its programs the choir performes modern music and a big part is left of Latvian classical music as well as traditional Latvian folk-music. The choir Mūza was established in 1947. Its founder and leader through out many years has been maestro Leonids Vigners (1906-2001). In 1999 the choir transferred into new direction and it became a youth choir. From 2006 the artistic director and the main conductor is Guntis Cimiņš.  less

What began as a small group of friends who were passionate about choral singing is now a well-established enterprise which is becoming a benchmark in Spain and abroad, as endorsed by the stream of prizes and invitations and the public and critical acclaim. The definitive point of this international recognition came in 2009, when the choir took part in the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Tours(France) after having triumphed in all the classes in the competition in Guido d’Arezzo (Italy) the previous year. With the common aim of enjoying choral music, and sharing that enjoyment with others, this project includes an adult choir of 40 mixed voices and a children’s choir (‘Los Peques’) with 50 members. Polyhymnia's singers are drawn from many sources, including some of the finest church choirs in New York Since 2000, director John Bradley has been creating original editions of music for the ensemble, some of it secreted in manuscript collections since the 16th century. Working in concert with libraries, liturgical historians and institutions, Polyhymnia hopes to both preserve and reintroduce choral masterworks of the Renaissance and early Baroque in ways that both entertain and elucidate.
