The unique sonority of a female group of singers, usually a capella, has been widely explored throughout The history of music by many composers from all times, both male and female. Examples of such music can be found from The Middle Ages up to contemporary music; however it is not until Romanticism that works are composed specifically for female Choirs. Thus, a particular genre is born that will keep its own entity up to The present times. This genre has been especially cultivated as of late by female artists and composers. In May, 2013, composer Ola Gjeilo spent 3 days on The Central Washington University Campus to join The Choir in recording 4 of his pieces. The oTher three were "Sanctus", "Luminous Night of The Soul", and "Vast Eternal Skies"
This performance of Gjeilo's "Ubi Caritas II" is from that session, which included a rendition of The piece sung in in its published (unaccompanied) version as well.
This was Mr. Gjeilo's second time on our campus, The first was in The spring of 2011, which resulted in 5 videos and a DVD (http://goo.gl/Xld0o)
As of 2013, The CWU Chamber Choir also has recorded videos of The music of Byrd, Monteverdi, Muehleisen, Singh, Victoria, and Rautavaara on YouTube.
