During this time the Choir has achieved success on many levels: Locally they have received 10 golden diplomas on provincial level for the “ATKV Applous” competition in the category for advanced, mixed high school Choirs; and 7 golden diplomas on national level for the same competition. They were the only Choir in the history of the Director’s trophy who won the award 8 times and they were also the first to do so in all three categories: mixed- (5 times), boys’- (twice) and girls’ Choir (once). They have also received double gold at the Gauteng Eisteddfod, A and A+ awards at the Pretoria Beeld Eisteddfod and first place in their category in more than one local competition. As a result of the love they had for Choir music, they felt a need for a school Choir to ... moreUviwe Senior Secondary School Choir, shortly know as Uviwe SSS Choir was founded in 1997 by a group of students, most of whom used to sing in various church Choirs. As a result of the love they had for Choir music, they felt a need for a school Choir to be established. from the first year of its existence, Choir was trained and prepared for the schools’ eisteddfods by two fellow students. In 1998, they both matriculated.
In the following year these students continued with the Choir training and were compensated for their services by the School Governing Body (SGB). In 2001 they were snatched by nearby schools that were willing to pay them better wages and the SGB had to look for other people who could assist with Choir training from the community. This continued until 2004, when the school employed a teacher who studied music at university.
