We bring the exuberant and uplifting sound of gospel music to these two central L...  moreWe recorded 'The Prayer' in isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic as we couldn't sing in our usual venues, St James's Church, Piccadilly and Farm Street Church in Mayfair. We bring the exuberant and uplifting sound of gospel music to these two central London churches each month. We wanted a song that spoke to hope and community so we decided on 'The Prayer' as a way of bringing hope and comfort to those that hear the song.  

This chant, harmonized beautifully by Swedish composer Oswald Jaeggi, was recorded in November of 2019 before the pandemic. It is a reminder of the Peace that Prayer and beauty can provide. The work was written for His Eminence John Patrick Cardinal Foley, Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and was premiered on the March 2011 tour of the Saint Mary's University Chamber Singers to Rome. This performance is from the choir's homecoming concert, March 17, 2011, with the composer conducting.

Its members are citizens of the two communities, Turkish-Cypriots and Greek-Cypriots, who share the same ...  moreThe Bi-communal choir for Peace in Cyprus was established in May 1997, after an initiative of the Bi-communal Citizens’ Group for Peace in Cyprus. Its members are citizens of the two communities, Turkish-Cypriots and Greek-Cypriots, who share the same vision of a re-unified and Peaceful common country and also believe in the unity of the two communities through Music. Our repertoire consists mainly of selected songs from the tradition of Cyprus in both Greek-Cypriot and Turkish – Cypriot dialects as well as newer songs in Greek, Turkish and any other language as long as they send messages of Peace, love, solidarity and reconciliation, messages that conform with our aims and visions. The choir works under the instructions of two conductors, a Turkish-Cypriot and a Greek-Cypriot and it also co-operates and performs with cultural groups of the smaller communities of Maronites and Armenians.
