Some background:
I have sung the traditional version of Good King Wenceslas since I was a kid. I fell in love with the lyrics and the story, but have always been puzzled by the way it was arranged, in particular the way that the "las" of Wenceslas lands on the downbeat. When I was young, I thought the lyrics were actually "Good King Wences last looked out!"
All to say that I got inspired to create a totally different version. I used the 19th century poem by John Mason Neale, but I wanted to create a different "feel" to the story, to take it back in time to its origins in the Middle Ages - hence the medieval feel to much of the piece.

The Stairwell Carollers, an a cappella group formed in 1977 by director Pierre Massie, is ranked amongst the best of Ontario choirs. The Carollers took First Place in both the 2010 and 2013 Ontario Music Festival Association provincial competitions.

Its repertoire is varied and loosely “classical”, focusing on sacred and secular music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
We rehearse Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. This is an auditioned group with considerable musical and choral experience, one that aspires to a higher standard of performance. Our members include amateur and professional musicians, choir directors and music educators. Prospective members may audition from time to time as positions come open. Contact the choir if you have an interest in joining.

The Royal College school song written by Late Principal H L Reed has been re-recorded by Kalasuri Diliup Gabadamudalige - an old Royalist, keeping in line with the original piano music score written by H L Reed himself. Otto Goldschmidt 'A tender shoot hath started', sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds
This lovely anthem by the German composer, conductor and pianist Otto Goldschmidt (1829 - 1907) was made famous by its regular inclusion at the Advent Carol Services at St John's College, Cambridge under the direction of the Late Dr George Guest.

This performance was recorded on 5th December 2010 in the Harvey Nichols Espresso Bar in Leeds' magnificent Victoria Quarter in the first of St Peter's Singers' now-traditional annual series of Sunday evening carol concerts there.
The choir is directed by Dr Simon Lindley, its Music Director since the Singers' formation in June 1977.
