Most necessities, like toilet paper and cleaning products, were gone from the shelves of all stores making people worry how fighting this treat would be possible. Throughout the country, several people offered to help neighbors, friends, and family as they self-quarantined and socially distanced from each, as we were told it was our best defense against the upcoming pandemic. During quarantine, some people started riots for an unrelated cause, Black Lives Matter. This movement has an ongoing struggle in our nation as the group battles f...    less

[A version of this article first appeared as a post on my blog From the Front of the Choir]   Some people just love anything that’s finely honed, all shined up, squeaky clean, highly skilled and perfectly rendered. Not me.     ...

You planned the repertoire.  You sorted the venue.  You learned how to give a decent downbeat and how to coax a reluctant tenor section into something resembling a blend.  What nobody told you - what no conducting course really prepares you...

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, Be all else but naught to me, save that thou art; Be thou my best thought in the day and the night, Both waking and sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word, Be thou ever with me, and I with thee, Lord; Be thou my great Father, and I thy true son; Be thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one. Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight; Be thou my whole armour, be thou my true might; Be thou my soul's shelter, be thou my strong tower; O raise thou me heavenward, great Power of my power. Riches I heed not, not man's empty praise, Be thou my inheritance now and always; Be thou and thou only the first in my heart: O Sov'reign of heaven, my treasure thou art. High King of heaven, thou heaven's bright Son, O grant me its joys after victr'y is won; Great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all.  less
