PG Carnivalesque" under the patronage of Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech, attracted several hundred people who listened to daring performances of popular pop music hits. During the performance we heard choral arrangements of hits such as: "Dancing Queen", "Memory", "California Dreamin'" and "Maria". This time it was not Mozart or Bach, but ABBA, Queen and songs from the musical West Side Story that graced the walls of the Gdansk University of Technology in carnivalesque musical artistic creations. Jazz musicians performed along with the Choir, and the musical effects were accompanied by a unique lighting arrangement, which required appropriate space and audience arrangement. The more-than-hour-long performance by the Academic Choir of the Gdańsk University of Technology, conducted by Prof. Mariusz Mróz and accompanied by musicians from the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, ended with joint singing, encores and a standing ovation.  less

The group me...  moreMind & Soul is a community Choir based at the Maudsley Hospital in South London, which is open to SLAM service users/staff, their friends and carers, local people and anyone who accesses mental health services, as well as those who don't. The group meets every Wednesday evening in the gym at the Maudsley Hospital, 115 Denmark Hill SE5 8AZ between 6-7pm. Our patron is the wonderful Mary King.

The two outer movements draw their words and inspiration from boisterous cries of 17th century market vendors as once featured in 'The Cries of London' by Orlando Gibbbons. The second movement features the words of a Scottish poet, William Dunbar (c. 1460-c.1520), in which he praises the English capital, and includes the line 'London, thou art the flower of cities all'. Together, these settings evoke a surprisingly contemporary impression of London's sights, sounds, and moods, inspiring some irresistible music, by turns contemplative and unquenchably thrilling. This 'capital' cantata was written in 2001 for the Diamond Jubilee of the Barnet Choral Society, of which Chilcott is President.  less

Several months previous, a number of likeminded individuals began to visualise the formation of a Male Choir for the Lower Llynfi Valley, something which this area of the County Borough of Bridgend, South Wales lacked. Following lengthy discussions with a number of experienced and well respected Choristers, we came up with some basic philosophies. • Keep the Choir to a manageable size • Take our music to the community-at-large • Establish ourselves as a quality musical group • Encourage less experienced Choristers to grow in ability and musicality • Share our joy in singing One thing was fundamental, and that was to keep the Choir `Ego-Free` their mantra being ‘Leave your Egos at the door as it’s the music that matters’. Their desire was to form a group in which lasting friendships would grow and be nurtured, with an aim to bond and enjoy singing, and at the same time, perform to the community, raise money for charity and have lots of pleasure doing so. Male voice singing is traditio...  moreMevagissey is a small fishing village with a population of approximately 2,000 people. It is situated on the South coast of the County of Cornwall, the area of England protruding into the Atlantic Ocean facing North America. Male voice singing is traditionally very popular in the county, there being 33 federated Choirs numbering 1,300 singers out of a total population of nearly half a million. The Choir was formed in 1974 and quickly matured into one of the leading and largest male Choirs in Cornwall. It now has over 55 members including several founder members. The Choir gives around 25 concerts each year, raising many thousands of pounds for various charities. On the 10th July 2010 they celebrated their 900th public appearance. During a concert tour of Gibraltar in 1979 they performed in the famous St. Michael's Cave. Subsequent tours have been to Holland/Northern Germany, to the Black Forest area of Germany on two occasions and in 1990 the Choir had a 14 day tour as guests of the Niagara Wine and Grape ...    less
