Founded in 2005, VOH has been entertaining Abu Dhabi audiences ever since! We have members of all skill levels and are a multicultural group. We use professionally made voice tracks to help learn our parts with precision, thus allowing us to put aside our sheet music and really enjoy the magic of hearing all the harmonies merged into the ringing chords of the Barbershop style! It’s the blend of these unique vocal parts that creates the space for an exciting ensemble. Barbershop singing style is unaccompanied, and creates four-part a cappella harmony. Although barbershop-style music is usually built on simple melodies and is relatively easy to sing, the "a cappella style" and the ear training necessary for independent part singing make it one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments of a vocal ensemble. The first concert was December 1964 at the National Gallery. After one season, Gerald moved to Montreal and Brian Law took over as director of St Matthew's church and took over directing the Cantata Singers as well. In 1969, the choir was invited to sing Purcell's Dido and Aneas at the new National Arts Centre in November. To balance the NAC Orchestra, the choir increased in size to 44 members.
