The group was founded in 2001 in Leioa's the Music School by Basilio Astulez, its current conductor. Kantika's repertorie has always balanced folk, sacrum and contemporary music. Due to the projects such as operas, international tours and TV concerts the choir enjoys a fine popularity.  

The Winelands Chamber Choir is a fledgling Chamber choir based in the Western Cape Winelands District of South Africa, formed in 2010 out of our passion for choral music, ranging from classical to contemporary.

It doesn’t have an exact date of birth, because it began as a way to get together, rather than as a formal choir. They don’t have a uniform, a fixed meeting place, or a specific repertoire genre. In 2003, Matjaž Šček, the conductor of the group, was replaced by Andreja Martinjak, who performed regularly with the choir and took part in national and international choir competitions where the choir as well as the conductor were winning numerous prizes and awards. The greatest achievements of the choir include a gold plaque, awarded in the 20th Slovenian national choir competition, Naša pesem (Our song) 2007 and the second place in the 9th international choir competition in Maribor 2008, where the choir also won a special prize for the best Slovenian choir of the competition. In 2008 we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the birth of Slovenian composer Pavle Merkú with a special cycle of concerts.
