Led by innovative and experienced choral conductors, this exciting new Choir will rehearse weekly in the heart of Blackheath, and will perform locally and further afield, at a wide range of events and concerts. Are you interested in being part of an exhilarating new group, performing everything from Tina Turner to Thomas Tallis? Let us answer some questions for you… I’m new to singing in Choirs. Does that matter? Absolutely not! VOCALIZE: Blackheath welcomes singers of all abilities and experiences, and the songs will be taught in a variety of ways to suit each singer. Today it comprises 23 selected singers, Cantilena meaning "lightweight song", deriving from the Latin word for "song" or "melody". Whenever possible, during concerts the members of the Choir wear a pearl necklace to represent the significance of the activities pursued: each member of the Choir is represented by one of the pearls, with the strand linking them all being the music - the main purpose of so much hard work to achieve artistic quality. As well as being an extremely feminine accessory, it also illustrates the quality, refinement, finish and musical beauty that the Academia Concerto pursues. With approximately 100-115 auditioned members and a professional core of 12 voices,the Choir's repertoire spans 6+ centuries . In addition to our annual subscription series, we sing with both the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra . The Choir has made five international tours to Italy, Spain, Germany and the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom and Ireland .
