During the Choir’s existence, it has taken par...  moreFounded in June 1977, the present Whitehaven Male Voice Choir has established an enviable reputation among the musical world of male voices in Britain, along with appearances on local radio and television. During the Choir’s existence, it has taken part in many musical festivals, and proven its quality by winning many first prizes, and has been joined in concert by world renowned soloists and Choirs from Britain and America. Every year, the Choir perform around twenty concerts throughout Cumbria, raising thousands of pounds for charitable organisations and other worthy causes. The services of the Choir are provided entirely free of charge to the organisations they perform for. Outside the county they have performed in such notable venues as The Royal Albert Hall, London; on three occasions, Cardiff Arms Park; twice, Sheffield Arena and in Edinburgh. Since 2006, when Gary Weidenaar took the baton, the Choir has received invitations to appear at four state & regional conferences: Meticulous attention is given to performing music of various periods or parts of the world in the style appropriate to that era or culture including adjustments of not only style but tone color also. Recent clinics with guests Chanticleer and Weston Noble have helped the Choir grow and the Choir regularly premiers new works by composers.  less

We were originally founded as a workplace Choir for K Shoes (taken over by Clarks) of Kendal, Cumbria in 1969. We have around fifty members and support local and national charities. We are a very friendly Choir and welcome new members.

It is a Choir ensemble of about 25 people, mainly amateurs. They share an incredible passion for music and are keen on spreading their positive singing energy. The Choir is known for its modern choral music repertoire, consisting of songs from all over the world as well as pop music masterpieces. The group was awarded a silver medal in pop music category during 5th 'Music Everywhere Festival' in Gdansk in 2019. So far, the Choir has performed in several places in Poland, often the non-obvious ones, trying to make choral music available to everyone. The Choir’s conductor, Zuzanna Popiołkiewicz, graduated from Conducting faculty at the Academy of Music in Gdansk. In 2012, as a representative of Poland, she led music workshops for the American organization 'Singers of United Lands' in 23 US states, Canada, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
