The success of this project led to a charity perfo...  morePatrick McCarthy founded the Colchester Bach choir in November 1992 when he agreed to train a choir to perform a baroque programme with Frederick Marshall and the Lavenham Sinfonia in Long Melford Church. The success of this project led to a charity performance of Messiah co-directed by Patrick and Peter Holman at the Swinburne Hall, Colchester Institute, which was part broadcast by Classic FM. Since then the choir has presented three or four concerts each season in Colchester (usually at St. Botolph's Church), often featuring baroque music. Each choir member has a different and wide-ranging background in solo, operatic and competitive performance, which enhances the choir’s ability to undertake some of the more challenging choral works and contributes to their fresh and unique sound. The Academy Chamber choir’s repertoire spans from early to contemporary music. Their most recent success was ranking third in “Irelands choir of the Year” at Cork International Choral Festival 2013. They then went on to win 1st place in the Early Music, 1st place in the Irish Language and 2nd place in the Sacred Music at Navan Choral Festival 2013. In October 2012, the choir was awarded the prestigious title of choir of the Year 2012, after an extensive UK-wide search and a competitive Grand Final held at London's Royal Festival Hall. The ensemble was established in 2007 by present musical director andrew Nunn and performs regularly across Scotland and beyond, having given concerts in renowned venues such as Glasgow Cathedral, the SECC, Dunkeld Cathedral, Paisley Abbey, the Mackintosh Church, the Queen's Hall, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and London’s Cadogan Hall. Performed by the Lyric choir and Concert choir ensembles of the Girl choir of South Florida (Artistic Director: Wallis Peterson) and the Concert choir and Second Generation Singers ensembles of the Florida Singing Sons (Artistic Director: Brett Karlin). This performance was the closing song for the inaugural Choral Exchange between the Girl choir and the Singing Sons. Choristers from both organizations spent an afternoon making music together, performing for and learning from each other, culminating in a performance for family, friends, and fans of both organizations.  less
