He had retired 12 years previously. What was once a packed out mass full of joy and prayer, families and young couples, singles and religious, was now a quieter mass with no choir and I saddened by this. I offered my services as a singer and musician to come and provide music for the 5:30 mass and within a few short weeks I returned to the pLace I consider my spiritual home. I had not purposely set out to start a choir but people began to approach me with a desire to sing and it was a need within the community I was not going to Ignore. On the 12th Dec 2008 The Jes Gospel Choir was birthed with 5 singers and me & it was a wonderful experience and we received a very warm welcome. We are made up of 3 different choirs - Mixed Chorus, Treble Choir, and Concert Choir. All of our members are students at Port Huron Northern High School and range from 13-18 years of age. We all share a love of music and create joy through singing together.

During the forty plus years of its lifetime it has benefited from the leadership of four further conductors, David Griffiths, Margaret Maddock, Len Williams, and our present Director of Music, Carol Davies. The choir has travelled widely over the years with tours in Europe, United States and Canada besides engagements throughout Wales and EngLand. Our concert venues have varied from vilLage halls to national auditoria and great cathedrals. In the Eisteddfod field we have won two National first prizes plus several seconds and others. In 2002 we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a sell-out concert in the 1000 seat Great Hall in Aberystwyth. One of the Choirs highlights was performing with the Central Band of the RAF at the Mayflower theatre Southampton and before Princess Beatrice of the NetherLands as part of a joint concert of a 1000 Welsh and Dutch voices.
