Hailing from places as far afield as Truro and Coverack and ranging in age from thirty-something to eighty-something they unite once a week in Penryn to indulge and nurture their love of singing. The women of Mabe Ladies Choir take their music making very seriously, constantly striving to achieve the highest artistic and technical standards. That said, they do spend an inordinate amount of time laughing! Whether it’s in the rehearsal room or the concert hall the emphasis is on fun & enjoyment, for Choir and audience alike. In a short time the Choir has achieved a valuable role in the Finnish community in The Netherlands. TAIKA practices in The Hague. The Choir has a wide repertoire, ranging from folk to pop, with an emphasis on Finnish female choral music. However, the Choir enthusiastically performs songs from all around the world. The Choir performs in a wide range of events hosted by businesses and organisations. In the spring of 2015 the Choir was performing for the first time abroad - in Finland. Summer 2017 Choir was in Verona, Italy, taking a part of an international Choir festival.  less

The style of singing is more 'pop' than classical and the choice of music reflects this, with the repertoire including show-tunes, popular songs from the 1930s to today, as well as classic barbershop arrangements. There are strong links to musical theatre in that most songs are choreographed, and performing skills are a key element in making a song work. We rehearse every Tuesday, 6:30pm-9:00pm, in central London between Kings Cross and St Paul's. Newly formed in 2022, the group is currently comprised of a mixed Choir, a men's Choir, and a Women's Choir. The mixed Choir meets at the Manchester Rugby Club, and the men's and Women's Choirs meet at the Wilmslow Rugby Club. The repertoire consists of a little bit of everything - madrigals, movies, musicals, spirituals, shanties, serious songs, silly songs - everything. All singers are welcome, and there is no audition required. We sing as a team, one step at a time.  less
