But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack From my first entrance in, Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning If I lack’d anything. ‘A guest,’ I answer’d, ‘worthy to be here:’ Love said, ‘You shall be he.’ ‘I, the unkind, ungrateful? Ah, my dear, I cannot look on Thee.’ Love took my hand and smiling did reply, ‘Who made the eyes but I?’ ‘Truth, Lord; but I have marr’d them: let my shame Go where it doth deserve.’ ‘And know you not,’ says Love, ‘Who bore the blame?’ ‘My dear, then I will serve.’ ‘You must sit down,’ says Love, ‘and taste my meat.’ So I did sit and eat.Love bade me welcome performed by Roundelay in Chester Love bade me welcome; yet my soul drew back, Guilty of dust and sin. Comprised of professionally trained musicians, Innismara is dedicated to the performance of the intimate and hidden treasures of the vocal ensemble repertoire. Well-known for specializing in sacred and secular music of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, Innismara also enjoys experimenting with contemporary, pop, jazz and spiritual arrangements as well as exploring the rich folk music of Newfoundland and Labrador.  less

The World choir and Orchestra of Santa Cruz perform "YaLaLay", composed and directed by Stephen Bigger. YaLaLay is a celebration, the words imply "woohoo!". This SAATTBB arrangement may be performed by 3 men and 3 women's voices in a variety of settings- from voices only (with small adaptation for the musical breaks- instrumental parts may be represented by vocal treatment) to vocals with drums, vocals with piano, and on up to full orchestration. Perfect as a concert opener or finale, the energy generated from this piece makes it a versatile inclusion in standard repertoire for choirs who want to be challenged musically but have a lot of fun in the process. It can be a quick learn to master the basics, but developing the finer points, swoops, stomps, and vocal noises will give the most insatiable appetite something on which to delight their (and their audiences') aural appetite. With parted lips and outstretch'd hands, And list'ning ears Thy servant stands. Call Thou early, call Thou late, to Thy great service dedicate. My soul, keep white, and whole. (poem by Charles Hamilton Sorley) Sung at Canterbury Cathedral during our Royal School of Church Music Summer Course in 1986, under Martin How. I (David W Solomons) was one of the altos. John Huntley - a fellow alto - recorded this performance.  less
