The group meets regularly in the Birnam Arts Centre in the village of Birnam, by Dunkeld, in Perthshire. Just Singin’ grew out of a nightclass which was offered from early 2003 by Birnam Institute and led by folksinger, and trained voice teacher, Christine Kydd. With Christine still a very big part of our culture, Just Singin’ is now a membership-based organisation and charity in its own right. Its programme of events and tutors is coordinated by an active volunteer committee and their work is complemented by a number of supportive group members. We have just released a CD called A Cup o' Kindness, made possible by funding from Griffin Wind Farms Community Fund. It is available on iTunes.  less

The choir rehearses weekly during school term time, and performs three or four concerts per year. The choir normally performs unaccompanied, with programmes mixing sacred and secular music drawn from all historical periods and spanning many different styles. Recent programmes have included works by Britten, Whitacre, Lauridsen, Byrd, Tallis, Palestrina, Finzi, Rutter, and many others.  less

Formed in 1966, by a gentleman named Idris Parfitt due to the demise of a small local choir – The Wyllie Glee Party; Mynyddislwyn Male Choir takes its name from a local ancient parish/borough, with the design of its badge based upon a drawing of the Churc...  moreFormed in 1966, by a gentleman named Idris Parfitt due to the demise of a small local choir – The Wyllie Glee Party; Mynyddislwyn Male Choir takes its name from a local ancient parish/borough, with the design of its badge based upon a drawing of the Church at Mynyddislwyn. Idris was adamant that there should be a male choir in the Blackwood area and so advertised his intent to the local people. His campaign received a good response and led to a meeting being held by the interested parties with the choir being formed in April of the same year. The design of the Choir's badge has changed a little since then with pupils from the local Libanus Primary School (where the choir used to rehearse) entering a competition to design the new badge which is still in use today. The Choir has travelled widely over the years performing and raising lots of money for charitable causes wherever it goes. You don’t ...  moreHomechoir is a digital choir - a community of singers numbering in the thousands who join Ben England BEM (the internet’s choirmaster) on YouTube three times a week for singing, fun and camaraderie. Homechoir is a new way of learning music. You don’t need to be an accomplished singer to take part. Homechoir members watch and sing along with Ben - teaching is one-way so nobody can hear us but the neighbours! - and are also invited to take part in the live text chat with Ben and with fellow singers around the world. There is a vibrant and friendly social community among the choir. If you can’t join in live, then you can still enjoy the music-making at any time. All our sessions remain available on YouTube after the live streams end for watching on catch-up when you can, and as often as you like.
