Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of DestIny) contrasts heavenly bliss with The sorrows of The human condition, while Schumann’s Nachtlied evokes The serene world of sleep. Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture portrays The fall of a once all-conquerIng hero and Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht is a dramatic musical rendition of The clash between nature-worshippIng Druidic tradition and new belief In a God disembodied from The natural world.
