Mary Kay Geston, conductor. Lalla, a 14th century Sufi-mystic poet from the Kashmir region of India, believed strongly in the development of the self while reaching enlightenment. the metaphor of dancing while feeling free or naked exemplifies the beauty of empowerment and self-worth. This work uses influences of Classical Indian music and other vocal effects to allow Lalla’s message to come to life.

Wir essen und leben wohl (χορικό) Η καντάτα Christ lag in Todesbanden (Ο Χριστός κείται με τα δεσμά του θανάτου) είναι μια από τις πρώτες καντάτες του συνθέτη. Το λιμπρέτο της είναι ένας ύμνος του Λούθηρου. Κάθε ένα από τα επτά μέρη της καντάτας είναι και ένας στίχος του ύμνου, με τη μορφή variation. Ο Bach γράφει συμμετρικά: χορωδιακό – ντουέτο – σόλο – χορωδιακό – σόλο – ντουέτο – χορωδιακό. Στο κέντρο (4ος στίχος) είναι η μάχη ανάμεσα στη ζωή και στον θάνατο. Η πρεμιέρα της έγινε το 1707 στο Arnstadt. Η παρούσα είναι η δεύτερη, μεταγενέστερη μορφή της καντάτας, όπως εκτελέστηκε το 1724 στη Λει...    less
