Away in a manger (words anon, set to a traditional Normandy tune arranged by Reginald Jacques) These carols were recorded on Sunday 13th December 2009 during the first of St Peter's Singers' two now-traditional annual performances to guests at the Espresso Bar of Harvey Nichols' Leeds store in the Victoria Quarter. The choir is directed on this occasion by its regular accompanist David Houlder, Sub-Organist of Leeds Parish Church. The Music Director of St Peter's Singers is Dr Simon Lindley, Organist of Leeds Parish Church and Leeds City Organist, who has held this post since the choir's formation in 1977. Pękiel served the court in Warsaw from about 1633. After the Swedish invasion of Poland in 1655 he then moved to Wawel Cathedral Chapel in Kraków, where he was Kapellmeister. 29 of Pękiel's works survive, mostly in manuscript. The musicologist Bartłomiej Gembicki divides these into two stages; early baroque (Warsaw) and church music in the style of prima pratica (Kraków). He wrote the only Polish church oratorio Audite mortales, on the topic of The Last Judgement. O Concerto de Natal “A Little Jazz Mass” de Bob Chilcott tem como protagonistas o Coro Pactis e os Wave Jazz Ensemble que subiram ao palco do Centro Cultural e de Congressos de Angra do Heroísmo, no dia 20 de dezembro, para mostrar a articulação de dois p...  moreO Concerto de Natal “A Little Jazz Mass” de Bob Chilcott tem como protagonistas o Coro Pactis e os Wave Jazz Ensemble que subiram ao palco do Centro Cultural e de Congressos de Angra do Heroísmo, no dia 20 de dezembro, para mostrar a articulação de dois projetos distintos numa toada jazz em ambiente natalício. Trata-se de uma peça com cinco andamentos, escrita para o coro infantil New Orleans Children, aquando da participação no Crescent City Festival de New Orleans, em 2009. Fazem ainda parte da peça alguns clássicos de Natal como "Zat You Santa Claus", popularizado por Louis Armstrong; "Little Drummer Boy" ou "Silent Night" com arranjos próprios do quinteto. Enquanto o Coro Pactis tem Fátima Gonçalves na direção musical, o Wave Jazz Ensemble integra os músicos Rui Melo, Paulo Cunha, Paulo Borges, Nuno Pinheiro e Antonella Barletta. In the 1970s I visited Poland twice and fell in love with Polish choral music -- and Lulajże Jezuniu became one of my favourite Christmas carols in any language. While flying from Ottawa to Vancouver in December 2017, I felt inspired and arranged most of this piece while at 30,000 feet! I must have been quite a sight conducting away in my aisle seat, with my head phones plugged into my computer. I have dedicated Lulajże Jezuniu to the late Adam and Helena Kmiotek, who showed me such generosity of spirit as my hosts in Szczecin during my second Polish trip.
