Hailing from places as far afield as Truro and Coverack and ranging in age from thirty-something to eighty-something they unite once a week in Penryn to indulge and nurture their love of singing. The women of Mabe Ladies Choir take their Music making very seriously, constantly striving to achieve the highest artistic and technical standards. That said, they do spend an inordinate amount of time laughing! Whether it’s in the rehearsal room or the concert hall the emphasis is on fun & enjoyment, for Choir and audience alike. Rule Number One of being a Mabe Lady is to have fun. There is no rule Number Two  less

We do provide Music for those who want it, but you are not required to audition or read Music. All are welcome. We do a fun variety of world Music, pop classics, and whatever else we feel like. We do one performance per session, and ask our audience to sing along too. We are a welcoming and warm and eclectic group.  

Our beginnings lie at Kingsbury High School in Brent. The school's Choir became very successful in the mid-1980s, winning many competitions including the Llangollen Eisteddfod. The school's Choir became very successful in the mid-1980s, winning many competitions including the Llangollen Eisteddfod. When school was over, it seemed natural to carry on singing together as a Choir, and the group's achievements included reaching the semi-finals of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year and appearing on Opportunity Knocks. In the 1990's, the Choir moved to Harrow and officially became known as Jubilate. Sarah Stroh took over as Musical Director in 1999 and since then the Choir has grown significantly, doubling in size to its current membership of 43. There are still some original members of the Choir, who have been singing together for more than 25 years. Our recent competition successes include winning the Barnardo's National Choir competition in March 2013 and the ladies Choir, folk and popular Music classes and runner-up with distinction in the sacred Music class in the 2012 Mid-Somerset Festival.
