Completed in 1997, the piece was inspired by the MS Estonia disaster of 1994. It won third prize in the European composition competition for cathedral Choirs in 1997. The text of the piece is taken from three sources: the Catholic Requiem Mass, Psalm 107: "They that go down to the sea in ships...", and the report of the disaster from the weekly Latin-language Finnish news service, Nuntii Latini. The main interest of the Choir is to serve through music repertoires performances especially in Manado Diocese which consists of catholic churches of the province. The Choir performs ordinarily music during Catholic Mass and other forms of Choir services in churches and events. The formation of this Catholic Youth has agreed to give contribution to the church and the country as young generation through music. In 2014, Manado Catholic Choir had established its junior member, named Manado Catholic Youth Choir (MCYC).
