Tackling complex song structure without written Music
[this is a version of a post which first appeared on my blog From the Front of the Choir]
The Choirs and workshops that I lead are run on the principle that Music should be accessible to all. This means that I don’t use written Music to te...

In October 2012, the Choir was awarded the prestigious title of Choir of the Year 2012, after an extensive UK-wide search and a competitive Grand Final held at London's Royal Festival Hall. The ensemble was established in 2007 by present Musical director Andrew Nunn and performs regularly across Scotland and beyond, having given concerts in renowned venues such as Glasgow Cathedral, the SECC, Dunkeld Cathedral, Paisley Abbey, the Mackintosh Church, the Queen's Hall, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and London’s Cadogan Hall. The Choir has also performed in more obscure locations, having “sung on the subway” as part of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) promotion of the Glasgow underground.
As well as their victory in the Choir of the Year competition, the Choir reached the semi-final stage of BBC1’s Last Choir Standing in 2008. T... less

The women of Mabe Ladies Choir take their Music making very seriously, constantly striving to achieve the highest artistic and technical standards. That said, they do spend an inordinate amount of time laughing! Whether it’s in the rehearsal room or the concert hall the emphasis is on fun & enjoyment, for Choir and audience alike. Rule Number One of being a Mabe Lady is to have fun. There is no rule Number Two less

The school's Choir became very successful in the mid-1980s, winning many competitions including the Llangollen Eisteddfod. When school was over, it seemed natural to carry on singing together as a Choir, and the group's achievements included reaching the semi-finals of Sainsbury's Choir of the Year and appearing on Opportunity Knocks.
In the 1990's, the Choir moved to Harrow and officially became known as Jubilate. Sarah Stroh took over as Musical Director in 1999 and since then the Choir has grown significantly, doubling in size to its current membership of 43. There are still some original members of the Choir, who have been singing together for more than 25 years.
Our recent competition successes include winning the Barnardo's National Choir competition in March 2013 and the ladies Choir, folk and popular Music classes and runner-up with distinction in the sacred Music class in the 2012 Mid-Somerset Festival. We came fourth at the prestigious Interna... less
