This particular setting was composed with a small mixed-ability choir in mind, so the voices are mainly in two parts (men's and women's voices), splitting to four parts (SATB) occasionally, where the words suggest it. The musical style is reminiscent Of the 19th century although the piano part does go into 20th century style syncopation at times.

The words are my own and tell Of children playing in the dusty streets (ie Of Bethlehem) unaware that a miracle has happened and asking them to look up to where the angels are Singing.

The choir delights in introducing new Songs that are connected by their unique choral sound, rather than from a particular genre and it is this wide appeal and their sense Of fun that has meant the group is in constant demand and continually attracts new members. Even in its early days the choir never quite conformed to the accepted norms Of what should be included in their repertoire. However, this in no way hindered its appeal and it went on to win a number and prestigious competitions including one Of the largest Eisteddfods for male choirs in Wales, an award for services to the arts from Chelmsford City Council and passed the advanced choral Singing examination Of The Associated Board Of the Royal College Of Music Successive musical directors contributed the choir`s ...    less

We took part Of our rehearsal last night to honor Black History Month and celebrate the diversity Of our Chorus. What better way to celebrate than with Song. We chose "Oh Happy Day"' a late '60s gospel Song with its roots from an 18th-century hymn.
