Moses Hogan (1957-2003) Spiritual Moses Hogan was an internationally renowned pianist, composer and arranger of choral music best known for his arrangements of spirituals. He studied with a full scholarship at Oberlin Conservatory of Music before continuing with his graduate studies at Julliard School of Music. He won several piano competitions during his performance years and published many CD's as well as songbooks. 'Hold On!' is an example of his 'soloist vs choir' style of spiritual arrangements. There is a solo throughout that sings the primary lyrics and message of the song while the rest of the choir provides a lively and energetic - often rhythmic - accompaniment. Because Egypt is now well positioned for food, people from afar come to purchase grain to replace their own failing crops. Among these are Joseph's brothers, who do not recognize him (although he recognizes them). He accuses them of being spies and orders them to leave one of them, Simeon, here in jail while they go home and return with their youngest brother Benjamin (who did not come the first time).  less

Hold on, give me a second... I need to relax after this one. This was crazy difficult. Not only was it just difficult note-wise, but the rhythms were ridiculous too. It was loads of fun though! I started working on this in June. I did take July and August off while I was away for the summer, but all in all this is the product of a little less than 4 months of work. There are 8 voices that you don't see, but that's just because I couldn't fit them on screen. 4 baritone voices and 4 tenor voices do not have videos to go along with them, but there aren't any splits in those parts so I don't...    less
