The ensemble aims to promote artistic excellence in choral music ranging from classical to popular. It also aims to provide an opportunIty for passionate singers to discover the voice as a singing instrument, develop high-level musical skills related to choral singing, influence choral music appreciation, develop cultural awareness, use choral music as a tool for change in building a better communIty, and finally, to represent Eastern Visayas in both local and international choral scenes. The Sinirangan believes that everyone can enjoy choral music and hopes to connect people of diverse backgrounds and ages to this extraordinary art form. Estas canciones de cuna se cantaban principalmente para los niños menores de 6 meses, ya que se buscaban en ellos signos de enfermedad y muerte. Estas canciones de cuna han siDo una forma de que la madre libere la tensión y el agotamiento. También se cantaban para alentar al niño a ser fuerte, o aunque macabro, posiblemente para decirle al niño cómo la muerte sería mejor para él en algún caso.  less

We ...  moreThe Island Consort Chamber Choir is a 20-voice communIty chamber choir that first appeared in concert in late April 2007. Its repertoire is varied and loosely “classical”, focusing on sacred and secular music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. We rehearse Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. This is an audItioned group wIth considerable musical and choral experience, one that aspires to a higher standard of performance. Our members include amateur and professional musicians, choir directors and music educators. Prospective members may audItion from time to time as posItions come open. Contact the choir if you have an interest in joining. We perform mostly a cappella pieces, but many of our concerts include accompaniment by members of the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra and organ.  less
