Director of Choral Activities Stephen Gothold, himself an alumnus, organized the recruiting efforts and the Chorale made its debut performance on Saturday, December 4, 1982 at the Whittier Presbyterian Church - a complete performance of Handel’s Messiah. Since then, the Chorale has sung over one hundred thirty concert programs in the Southern California area. The Chorale performed in Japan in 1994 and at the Hollywood Bowl in 1995 as it joined together with 1,000 singers from America and Japan to sing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. In 2001, members of the Chorale -- along with Whittier College students, alumni, and members of the Imperial Valley Choral Society -- toured Eastern Europe and performed selections of American hymns, spirituals, and sacred songs. The group is composed of talented students of the College from different levels, gathered together by their common passion, the passion for singing. But talent and passion is not enough, rehearsing is also one of the essential elements in creating good music. Housed in the Faculty of Engineering, members are composed of students from the different Engineering and Computer Departments. Started out as a small group of young Engineering students in 1976, the group now is currently the UST-Engineering's pride. Under the baton of Mr. Ronald Raz, the chorale has been able to earn places in the annual University Competitions. Even until now, the group has been maintaining a position in the top College choirs of the University. The chorale is not only known for their repertoire ranging from sacred music to mellow pop, they are also known for their acapella renditions of up beat pop music. They are also engaged in rendering their music not only to the school community but also in other events that may be requested.  less
