Under the direction of soprano and singing teacher Michelle Nova, the Singers perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, sacred, operatic and modern choral music. As a part of the historic community of Worcester Cathedral, the choir has gained a reputation for musical sensitivity and ground breaking performance. The choir was founded in 1998 by its musical director, Stephen Shellard, in order to draw together a group of high quality Singers from the local area to develop a concert repertoire and further enrich the choral tradition of Worcester Cathedral. The establishment of the choir made history as, for the first time since its foundation nearly 1000 years ago, Worcester Cathedral included women's voices as a part of its musical life.  less

Thompson. The 40-80 member A Cappella Choir offers freshman and sophomore Singers the opportunity to perform works for larger choirs and to fine-tune the art of choral singing through exposure to music from the Renaissance through the 21st century. In daily rehearsals, choir members hone musicianship skills such as rhythm, sight-reading and the understanding of complex scores. They develop an understanding of the intricacies of vocal production, including pitch and how to blend individual voices together into a unified, beautiful sound. Finally, members learn how to sing in an ensemble and to successfully meld as a team. The choir frequently performs with other School of Music ensembles, including the Utah Philharmonia orchestra, the Wind Ensemble, the Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorus. The score is at once rhythmic and exciting, haunting and unsettling. It was a winner of the 2018 Uncommon Music Festival Composition Competition. It is accessible for all fine high school, collegiate and community choral ensembles. Performers are encouraged to present this work in a more dramatic fashion than usual, “within (or surrounding) the audience.” 2018 Winner of the Uncommon Music Festival Composition Award & premiere in Sitka, Alaska, summer 2018.  less

We do a wide variety of music from Renaissance to contemporary and from a cappella to works with Chamber orchestra. We are a fun loving, very friendly group. However, our music comes first and hard work is required of all. An audition is required. Our Music Director is William R. Thomas.
