It was founded in 1978 by Dr. Jeffrey Unger for the sole purpose of providing quality performances of choral music written for the small ensemble. In the 32 years of its existence, NJCS has presented concerts throughout New Jersey and beyond. NJCS was chosen to represent New Jersey at the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division convention in Baltimore in 1984 and again in Philadelphia in 1988. In June 1991, by invitation of the Bishop of Washington, D.C., NJCS performed at the National Cathedral. In December 1998, NJCS was the guest of the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia and performed in their annual Christmas concert at The Academy of Music. In 1999, NJCS performed at Alice Tully Hall in New York City. MEMBERSHIP The ensemble is composed of both professional and talented amateur musicians. Membership is by audition. The ensemble has performed successfully in major music festivals in Israel and abroad. Their resume includes hundreds of performances in the most prominent venues in Israel (‘The Israeli Opera House‘, ‘Binyanei Hauma‘, ‘Tzavta‘ etc...) and collaborations with various artists and ensembles, including: ‘The Vocal Octet‘ , ‘The Kolan quartet‘, the singer Hanan Yovel and ‘The Haifa Symphony Orchestra'. They have received media exposure on radio and television programs and were featured in a special television program celebrating the Millennium year which was broadcasted to 60 countries worldwide. In 2004, the ensemble was invited to a concert tour in Germany and was warmly received by the critics. The group is formerly known as Chorus Leviticus, from the word "Frisco" it means San Francisco Del Monte, it is a small town founded by our patron San Pedro Bautista during 1590, the group is comprised of mostly students, out of school youth, young professionals and music enthusiast from the Parish Youth and Music Ministry of Archdiocesan Shrine of Santuario De San Pedro Bautista in Quezon City,which is also known as one of the oldest church in the Philippines and the provincial house of the Franciscans. As our patron saint San Pedro Bautista, a Franciscan missionary, a saint who lived in our community, and who was the first missionary to teach liturgical music to local children and organized church choirs in the Philippines.
