The women of The Vocal Art Ensemble perform Ro Agura's "Hotaru Koi" (Ho, Firefly) as part of their May 2011 concert "Cloudburst--Sounds of Nature". To set the mood, the men behind the women are providing 'firefly' effects using laser keychains.

The choir makes occasional visits to other British churches and cathedrals, as well as an annual foreign tour, recent destinations have included USA, Mexico, Sweden, Thailand, Rome and Prague. Casualidades trágicas que tiene el destino, justo por esas mismas fechas hacíamos nuestro primer acercamiento a esta obra y su autor, el japonés Kentaro Sato; que desde su Hamahatsu natal, la tierra de mis padres, la llamaba, comenzó a narrar su día a día tras la tragedia con unas comunicaciones cargadas de pena y resignación pero nunca exentas de esperanza. Y en eso se convirtió esta obra para nosotros, en un canto a la esperanza añadiendo, a su belleza intrísiseca, un plus emocional y epidérmico que surge inevitablemente en cada presentación. Ha sido tremendamente evocador y motivante que el propio Maestro Kentaro Sato, reprodujera nuestra interpretación en todos sus sitios web y la calificarara de "Splended". Las piruetas trágicas del destino de las que hablamos al principio, han querido que también mañana se conmemore el 9º Aniversario del atentado en el metro de Madrid. The Song of Ruth, a setting of the most famous passage from the Book of Ruth (Ruth 1:16–17), opens with a gentle polyphonic section for the chorus. (“Do not ask me to leave you, or to stop following you; for where ever you go, I will go, and where you sta...  moreThe Song of Ruth, a setting of the most famous passage from the Book of Ruth (Ruth 1:16–17), opens with a gentle polyphonic section for the chorus. (“Do not ask me to leave you, or to stop following you; for where ever you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God.”) The soprano joins the choir for the twice-repeated middle section of the piece. The music here is contrastingly homophonic and intense. (“Where you die, I will die and be buried.”) The tune and harmonies are borrowed from a passage in my piece Selections from “The Song of Songs” for male voice and band. That piece is dedicated to my wife, Ruth, hence the connection. If that were not enough, our daughter is named Naomi! The Song of Ruth closes with a recapitulation of the music from the opening, but with new words assigned to it, and with the soprano soloist providing a descant for it. (“May the Lord cause ill fate to befall me, and more, if anything but death separates me and you.”) Appropriat...    less
